Guide for Transit-Oriented Developments (TODs)

This guide highlights key ideas about transit-oriented development (TOD) and shows how local Minneapolis/St. Paul projects have put these ideas to work. The document features best practices and case studies and provides a baseline approach for implementing TODs. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to implementing TODs, but there are key concepts that can be applied. These concepts include compact development, mixed uses, pedestrian orientation and multiple transportation interfaces.
This is a helpful resource for a Sustainability Officer who is looking to model another city's success developing TODs. The publication discusses many of the necessary ingredients for TODs, including block sizes, densities, complimentary land uses, building design, building massing, building orientation, area connections and parking controls. This report shows that each TOD will be different and will have different needs based on the local situation.
