Green Jobs Guidebook
The 2008/2009 Green Jobs Guidebook was authored by the Environmental Defense Fund and the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights. It is intended to be a resource for job seekers, students, guidance counselors, career advisors, policymakers and others interested in California’s existing and growing green jobs marketplace. The report provides profiles of over two hundred jobs that will be needed in the new green economy.
The Guidebook’s job profiles include the following information:
- Job descriptions (jobs are broken into 12 sectors, including but not limited to renewable energy, energy storage, green buildings, transportation, government, waste reduction/management and carbon markets)
- Salary information
- Minimum educational requirements
- Potential certifications
- Employer types
- Job market potential
The Guidebook also provides information on a range of workforce issues, including:
- Job types available to individuals with only a high-school diploma
- Cutting-edge green job training and placement programs
- Green job apprenticeship programs
- Community college green job programs
- Easy-to-use career and education pathways map
The Guidebook is comprehensive and easy to use and provides information about green job opportunities at a level of detail matched by few other resources. Although the Guidebook focuses on job opportunities in the California economy, it will still serve as an excellent guide for other local communities seeking to expand their economies in similar ways.
