Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG)

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG)

The US government has allocated 2.8 billion dollars in economic recovery funding for cities, counties and states under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program.  According to the US Conference of Mayors, the purpose of the EECBG program is “assist eligible entities in implementing energy efficiency and conservation strategies,” and they have created a two-page fact sheet which provides a concise summary of the EECBG as included in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.  The document outlines:

  • The Purpose of the EECBG Program
  • Eligible activities
  • Requirements for Direct Block Grant Recipients
  • Requirements for States under the EECBG Program
  • Eligible Entities for U.S. DOE Competitive Grants and How to Apply

Energy efficiency is the process of using less energy to produce the same or increased functions. Often used mistakenly as a synonym for ENERGY CONSERVATION. The ability or potential of a physical body to do work. The most common forms of energy are heat, light, mechanical (moving parts), and electrical.
