Local Greenprinting for Growth

Local Greenprinting for Growth

Local Greenprinting for Growth is a four volume publication by the Trust for Public Land (TPL) and the National Association of Counties (NACo). It outlines a systematic approach to defining a conservation vision, securing conservation funding and acquiring and managing park and conservation lands. It also utilizes case studies and resource materials to round out its recommended methodology.

Greenprinting is identified in this document as “a smart growth strategy that emphasizes land conservation to ensure quality of life, clean air and water, recreation and economic health.” The four volumes include an overview and three workbooks that explore the ideas of vision, funding, and acquisition and management. Each volume provides “how to” information learned from communities across the country.

Greenprinting is a recommended resource for sustainability because it has a systematic methodology that can be relevant and replicated in any community. It identifies the value of conservation lands and green infrastructure to the health and well-being of a community. Though typically facilitated by professional consultants, the process is accessible to government officials, community stakeholders and citizens. It fosters awareness of environmental resources and green infrastructure and helps establish a foundation for advocacy and implementation.
