Sustainable Building Ordinance: Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) Components

This outline will provide a sound foundation on which policymakers may assemble a relevant local sustainable building ordinance, and it allows for the quick identification of areas for investigation and inclusion.

The process utilizes an integrated approach to the creation of a sustainable building ordinance. It conveys ownership to and accountability from community stakeholders through emphases on building consensus among affected parties.  Significant leadership will still be required to review, identify, and to craft a strong ordinance and to secure its passage.

This section of the draft ordinance is focused on Indoor Environmental Quality which addresses indoor air quality, environmental tobacco smoke control, outdoor air delivery monitoring, thermal comfort, building entrances, acoustic control, daylighting, and low emitting materials in order to address the comfort and well being of occupants.

Any party with an interest in an initiative.The controlled admission of natural light into a space, used to reduce or eliminate electric lighting.The quality of air inside a building space that affects the health and wellbeing of building occupants.
