"Buy Local Day" Resolution

This basic resolution creates a “Buy Local Day” in order to express support for local businesses. The resolution positions the city as the champion of locally-owned, independent businesses without legally committing the city to any particular policy separate from creating a “Buy Local Day.”

This generic resolution, which can be easily tailored for local communities, is designed to:

  • Identify the positive impacts locally-owned businesses have on the financial stability and community character of the city
  • Express the city’s commitment to locally-owned businesses
  • Designate a particular day as “Buy Local Day”
A “Buy Local Day” can be one tool in a larger strategy to promote locally-owned businesses. Elected officials may produce a resolution like this one, convene a press conference as an opportunity to announce the creation of a “Buy Local Taskforce” and initiate the development of a buy local ordinance focused on the city’s procurement policy.
