Municipal energy and water use is reported annually, together with solid waste and recycling data and carbon emissions.  Reports are provided to the Sustainable Development Commission and City Council and made available on-line.    Community-wide energy use and carbon emissions are reported annually. The Office of Sustainability is called Bureau of Planning and Sustainability.  This office reports to the Mayor and it is it's own department.  All classifications and position descriptions are available online. Key positions include:    Planning and Sustainability Director  Sustainable Development Operations Manager  Conservation Program Coordinator series.

Total annual funding = $15 million  Just over half is from General Fund; about 30% from a solid waste management fund; and the balance from grants, contracts, and interagency agreements.

1. Develop Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan
2. Maintain updated Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan
3. Develop criteria, policies and procedures for sustainable programs
4. Oversee and maintain sustainability budget
5. Track and report about sustainability programs underway on a regular basis through the City's performance management program
6. Track, monitor, and report utility usage and greenhouse gas emissions of city operations
7. Track, monitor, and report greenhouse gas emissions at the community level
8. Foster, develop, and launch projects in partnership with city departments and external stakeholders
9. Identify and secure funding resources from outside sources (ex. Federal grants) for projects
10. Represent the City at key meetings

Sustainability is well institutionalized in the form of a Bureau of Planning and Sustainability with a staff of 100.
