Three Greatest Accomplishments to Date:
1. Adoption of the first Sustainable development plan with the community in 2005.
2. Reducing our GHGs by 83% between 1990 and 2002 by generating energy from our landfill site and transforming it in the 2nd largest park in Montreal.
3. After 25 years of discussions, adoption in August 2009 of a new Waste management plan for the whole community 2010-2014.

City Tracking & Results

The Sustainability Plan has been adopted by the municipal council in April 2005 and since then we submit an annual report of the actions taken by all the stakeholders (now 175 different organisms) every year.

Division of Sustainability Facts

The office of Sustainability is called Sustainability Coordination Team. The Sustainability Coordination Team reports to the City Council and sits in the office of Environment and Sustainability Development Department. There is 1 Coordinator and 5 Planning professionals in the Department.

Sustainability Officer Duties

Support city executive and senior management team in the design of overall strategy and process for the project
Develop Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan
Maintain updated Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan
Oversee and maintain sustainability budget
Coordinate and lead City's Green Team
Develop criteria, policies and procedures for sustainable programs
Track and report about sustainability programs underway on a regular basis through the City's performance management program
Track, monitor, and report utility usage and greenhouse gas emissions of city operations
Track, monitor, and report greenhouse gas emissions at the community level
Foster, develop, and launch projects in partnership with city departments and external stakeholders
Identify and secure funding resources from outside sources (ex. Federal grants) for projects
Represent the City at key meetings
Develop a multi-faceted communication strategy within the organization and the community to promote the City's efforts locally, statewide, and nationally to gain recognition
Perform financial analysis on ongoing and new projects
