Division of Sustainability Facts

The Division of Sustainbility reports to the Facilities and Sustainability Unit and the City Engineer. It resides in the office the Engineer. There are five positions within this Division: (1) Facilities and Sustainability Manager; (2) City Architect; (3) Architect 2; (4) Engineer 2; (5) Engineer 3.

Program Funding

Staff funded through tax levy and Capital projects funded through - tax levy, utility funds and grants. Funding is provided to help reach goals, but it is not tied to these goals.

Sustainability Officer Duties

Support city executive and senior management team in the design of overall strategy and process for the project
Develop Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan
Maintain updated Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan
Coordinate and lead City's Green Team
Draft procedural and training manuals, process flow charts, and implementation plans
Oversee and maintain sustainability budget
Develop criteria, policies and procedures for sustainable programs
Track and report about sustainability programs underway on a regular basis through the City's performance management program
Track, monitor, and report utility usage and greenhouse gas emissions of city operations
Track, monitor, and report greenhouse gas emissions at the community level
Foster, develop, and launch projects in partnership with city departments and external stakeholders
Identify and secure funding resources from outside sources (ex. Federal grants) for projects
Develop a multi-faceted communication strategy within the organization and the community to promote the City's efforts locally, statewide, and nationally to gain recognition
Represent the City at key meetings
Perform financial analysis on ongoing and new projects
