City operational sustainability plans are assessed on the basis of progress made toward City Sustainability goals and Climate goals

The Office of Sustainability is called Sustain LA.  It reports to the Mayor and sits in the Office of Evirnoment LA.   There are three positions within this department:  (1)Environmental Affairs Officer; (2) Environmental Supervisor I; (3) Student Assistants and interns

SustainLA is funded through special and general funds.  Total funding for this fiscal year has not yet been determined.

1. Support city executive and senior management team in the design of overall strategy and process for the project
2. Develop Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan
3. Maintain updated Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan
4. Coordinate and lead City's Green Team
5. Draft procedural and training manuals, process flow charts, and implementation plans
6. Oversee and maintain sustainability budget
7. Develop criteria, policies and procedures for sustainable programs
8. Track, monitor, and report utility usage and greenhouse gas emissions of city operations
9. Track, monitor, and report greenhouse gas emissions at the community level
10. Track and report about sustainability programs underway on a regular basis through the City's performance management program
11. Foster, develop, and launch projects in partnership with city departments and external stakeholders
12. Identify and secure funding resources from outside sources (ex. Federal grants) for projects
13. Represent the City at key meetings
14. Develop a multi-faceted communication strategy within the organization and the community to promote the City's efforts locally, statewide, and nationally to gain recognition
15. Perform financial analysis on ongoing and new projects

Sustainability Planning is required by Executive Order and is included in multiple planning and measurement processes.  Each City department is required to develop and maintain sustainability plans for their operations, and to report to the Mayor and Council on those plans annually.  The City is currently beginning the development of a City-wide sustainability plan through a broad stakeholder process.
