We have an "indystat" that we report to quarterly — it's the City's performance management system. We also produced an annual report for the first time this year which shows our progress.

The office of Sustainability reports to the Mayor. It resides in the office of Public Works. There are two positions in the office of Sustainability: Director of Sustainability Renewables and Energy Efficiency Intern. The Sustainability Officer is appointed by the Mayor and it is a 1-2 year term.

Funded through the General Fund at less than $100K annually. Funding is not tied to acheiving specific goals. Once the plan is adopted, we will be better able to tie or link funding with goals.

1. Support city executive and senior management team in the design of overall strategy and process for the project
2. Develop Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan
3. Oversee and maintain sustainability budget
4. Develop criteria, policies and procedures for sustainable programs
5. Track and report about sustainability programs underway on a regular basis through the City's performance management program
6. Foster, develop, and launch projects in partnership with city departments and external stakeholders
7. Track, monitor, and report utility usage and greenhouse gas emissions of city operations
8. Identify and secure funding resources from outside sources (ex. Federal grants) for projects
9. Represent the City at key meetings
10. Develop a multi-faceted communication strategy within the organization and the community to promote the City's efforts locally, statewide, and nationally to gain recognition

We are drafting an ordinance that will officially create the Office of Sustainability in city ordinance and not just a mayor's initiative.
