We report progress to the Mayor and also through our website: www.greenerchattanooga.com. This is done as the need arises but we expect that as we add full-time staff the procedures will become more formailzed.

Division of Sustainability Facts

The Division of Sustainability reports to the Mayor and sits in the Regional Planning Agency. There are three positions within the Sustainability Division: (2) 2 part time interns; (2) One Director of the Urban Design Center (part time); (3) City Forester (part-time). We hope to hire an Energy Coordinator on a full time basis. Currently the Director of the Urban Design Studio is the main staff person but has other shared duties and there are two part-time iterns working in the Sustainability Office.

Program Funding

Currently it is funded through the Mayor's office but does not have a separate line item budget.

Sustainability Officer Duties

Develop Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan
Maintain updated Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan
Support city executive and senior management team in the design of overall strategy and process for the project
Coordinate and lead City's Green Team
Develop criteria, policies and procedures for sustainable programs
Track, monitor, and report utility usage and greenhouse gas emissions of city operations
Track, monitor, and report greenhouse gas emissions at the community level
Represent the City at key meetings

Mechanisms in Place for Long-term Sustainability

Our Climate ActionPlan was officially adopted by City Council. Also, our CHattanooga Green Committee was appointed by the Mayor and will continue through a change in administrations.
