Alternative Fuels Switch Checklist

This checklist provides communities with guidance on adopting biodiesel for fleet vehicles. 100% biodiesel is a cleaner-burning alternative to petroleum-diesel that can be produced from locally available, renewable resources, which in many cases may otherwise be considered waste. Biodiesel is most frequently blended with petroleum diesel (B5, B20, etc. with the number indicating the percentage of the blend that is biodiesel) and can be used in most diesel engines without modifications. Users should refer to the manufacturer’s warranty for specific guidance.
The use of petroleum-based transportation fuels involves economic, environmental, health and security costs that can be reduced by utilizing alternatives.
