Baltimore Food Policy Initiative
Created in 2009, the Baltimore Food Policy Initiative (BFPI) is a national model for city leadership in increasing access to healthy, affordable foods. Based on recommendations from a city-created Food Policy Task Force, BFPI supports programs that engage the community and address food access issues through policy change, healthy food retail, urban agriculture and partnerships with local schools.
The BFPI provides a model for other cities seeking to support sustainable, local food systems and demonstrates the impact cities can have in reducing food deserts and increasing community-wide access to healthy foods.
