Environmentally Preferred Purchasing (EPP)

The federal government defines EPP as the selection of  “products or services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products or services that serve the same purpose.”  Procurement officers are encouraged to assess the environmental impacts of products over their entire life cycle -- from raw material through disposal. Selections should be made based on the ability of the product to meet technical specifications AND to minimize negative environmental impacts.
