Telecommuting Costs Savings Commentary

This calculator computes the possible financial and environmental benefits of telecommuting.

Employers enter data such as the number of employees, average miles per gallon and average commute to determine how much telecommuting might save per employee, in dollars and CO2 emissions. This information allows employers to consider the environmental and economic impacts of shifting to a telecommunications-based office over different time periods.

By using this calculator, managers can determine the potential benefits of telecommuting, both to employees and to the environment. This calculator can reduce uncertainty about the financial and environmental benefits of switching to telecommuting for different numbers of days per year.

Telecommuting can also reduce the amount of materials used by employees, as they may not need separate work and home electronics.  Energy use can also be reduced by minimizing the need for energy-intensive office buildings.
